And I have wondered if my "hybrid" style might have been part of the problem. Originally the sketches were to show what was in my head... then for the blog it was to provide what one might call "image bait". How necessary are they if I go to some sort of book-style? Not sure.

That said, you're entering the realm of hyperbole, and if you'd prefer the original text files, there's politer ways to ask for them.GregThttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17689711881670288362noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3546605126869401561.post-28670172115611716052014-06-09T08:33:05.326-07:002014-06-09T08:33:05.326-07:00Maybe it's because you draw like a three-year-...Maybe it's because you draw like a three-year-old. I would have read your series to assess your writing but my eyes bled too much for me to see.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07541539285965616251noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3546605126869401561.post-45562849255423518992014-06-05T17:47:36.522-07:002014-06-05T17:47:36.522-07:00Let the Mathtans lie fallow for a bit. If not, they can still decorate whiteboards and tests.

You managed to sustain a serial for close to three years. The web is littered with the remnants of webcomics abandoned after three weeks. You have the Mathtans for when you need them, whenever that will be.Scott Delahunthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06735796666483741699noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3546605126869401561.post-19503743403538311182014-06-02T20:52:29.878-07:002014-06-02T20:52:29.878-07:00I'm not great at following others' blogs e...I'm not great at following others' blogs either - partly due to time, so I'm hoping I'll have more of it now. As to using the characters in some other way... I did seriously consider moving to more of a webcomic style. The problems with that are:
-It's a format outside of my comfort zone, so I'd need to devote more time to it.
-It would probably involve doing a lot more artwork, so again, time.
-If I did do that, and I STILL had no readership, I honestly don't know if I could live with myself. Meaning I need to put some distance here.

It's funny, I thought after this post cued up, I'd be able to make a clean break. Not sure why I believed that. In particular, the song parodies may well continue. Or not. We'll see how things play out. NOT to the stage though. >.<GregThttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17689711881670288362noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3546605126869401561.post-16829251318127823112014-05-20T16:58:45.031-07:002014-05-20T16:58:45.031-07:00I was going to suggest what Jennifer suggested, us...I was going to suggest what Jennifer suggested, using your characters in a different format. You've created them, they exist, and while time is a sparse resource for you, using them creatively in class is always a possibility, even if just as a visual representation of how the trig functions look. The students just have to remember the hair styles. :)

I'm not sure why the lack of followers or feedback. It could be that you were ahead of the curve and more mathematical representations could come next September from someone else. You managed to be one of the first to parody "Call Me Maybe", long before anyone else had.

Take time over the summer to take stock of what you learned from the serials. You took an idea and kept it going for three years, expanding the references each new serial. All else fails, you have a drama club at your disposal if you want to see your characters make the transition from web to stage. :)Scott Delahunthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06735796666483741699noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3546605126869401561.post-45722670574124513732014-05-18T10:47:38.756-07:002014-05-18T10:47:38.756-07:00I'm sorry, Greg. I think the math folks on Twitter, as you've pointed out, are looking for ideas to use in their teaching, not fun diversions - no one seems to have enough time for that.

I think you have amassed a cool collection of characters. I wonder if you could use them in a cartoon format; short on text but rich with puns and such. I truly hope you get over the sad part soon, my friend.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11341562843233653636noreply@blogger.com
